Trazabilidad y optimización: internet de las cosas aplicado a logística y transporte
Algunos de los beneficios son la garantía de que los productos serán entregados en tiempo y forma, un mayor control sobre los vehículos que forman parte de la flota y hasta una mayor eficiencia en el consumo de combustible.
Impulsada por el auge del comercio electrónico y nuevos modelos de consumo, la logística se posicionó como un elemento crítico de los negocios en la nueva normalidad. Desde el delivery de última milla hasta los locales solo para retiro de productos, la trazabilidad tecnológica es un punto fundamental en la gestión.
Puntualmente, internet de las cosas (IoT) se consolida como una solución ideal para rastrear objetos, tener en todo momento información sobre los activos transportados, generar rutas óptimas para evitar tiempos y ahorrar combustible y hasta controlar remotamente la flota de vehículos para anticipar reparaciones o detectar a tiempo robos o accidentes.
Cada producto, en cada momento
Una de las aplicaciones más difundidas de IoT en el segmento logístico es la identificación y el seguimiento de artículos desde que salen de la fábrica hasta que llegan al consumidor final. Para eso, se utiliza RFID (identificación por radiofrecuencia): cada artículo está identificado unívocamente cuyos datos pueden ser capturados por un lector y luego almacenados y analizados por una plataforma IoT.
De esta manera, se logra trazar de punta a punta los movimientos del producto, desde el momento en que ingresa en la línea de producción hasta que se entrega en el punto de destino. Así, no solo se garantiza que cada mercadería fue recibida en tiempo y forma, sino también que fue trasladada de acuerdo a las normas de seguridad que podría requerir, como temperatura o embalajes especiales.
En combinación con herramientas analíticas y predictivas e integrado con los sistemas de transporte, es posible estimar con precisión absoluta los tiempos de entrega, generando una mayor satisfacción entre los clientes.
Beneficios de la trazabilidad
El modelo de RFID y todos sus beneficios se aplican también al momento del almacenamiento.
Con las tecnologías IoT es posible crear un almacén inteligente de forma tal que todos los activos de inventario puedan controlarse de manera remota.
Con estas capacidades, es posible evitar la abundancia de determinados productos o los faltantes de otros y hasta acelerar la llegada de mercaderías en caso de ser necesario.
Vehículos bajo control
Con los sensores adecuados, cada vehículo de la flota de transporte se convierte en una fuente de datos que permite controlar en tiempo real numerosos aspectos: desde evaluar si no hubo desvíos de la ruta hasta detectar detenciones prolongadas, pasando por una evaluación de los niveles de combustible.
Del mismo modo, se puede certificar que los choferes no trabajen más horas que las indicadas y medir a través de wearables – dispositivos electrónicos ponibles/vestibles – algunas de sus características de salud para asegurarse de que estén en condiciones óptimas antes de salir al camino.
Pero también es posible evaluar el estado de los vehículos, detectar tempranamente fallos y optimizar el mantenimiento de la flota. De esta manera, se ahorran costos relacionados con reparaciones no programadas y se evitan detenciones. Además, se extiende la vida útil de cada uno de los camiones u otros vehículos de reparto.
La combinación de los dos puntos anteriores, más la ayuda de la inteligencia artificial, es útil también para determinar las rutas óptimas de entrega de productos. De esta manera, no solo se optimizan los costos: también se contribuye con el medio ambiente gracias a una disminución en el consumo de combustible.
Transportes autónomos
Internet de las cosas también jugará un rol clave en el desarrollo de mecanismos de transporte autónomos, segmento en el cual la inteligencia artificial juega el papel fundamental. Y no solo para trasladar mercaderías: se estima que el mercado de taxis sin conductor (robotaxis) crecerá, según datos de Reportlinker, a un 136% anual durante los próximos nueve años. Hoy existen apenas poco más de 600 unidades. Para 2030, serán 1,4 millones.
¿Qué ocurre en el mundo de la logística? En China, la cadena de comida rápida Kentucky Fried Chicken, lanzó a las calles unos pequeños camiones de reparto completamente autónomos que vendían pollo frito de manera contactless por las calles. Y desde septiembre del año pasado Amazon fue autorizada a realizar entregas con mini-drones dentro de los Estados Unidos. Dos pequeños ejemplos que demuestran que el segmento está aún en plena transformación.
Los productos en perfectas condiciones son entregados en el momento exacto y con los mayores niveles de eficiencia. Esa es, en resumen, la propuesta de valor de IoT para el universo del transporte y la logística.
